It said that this shrine once formed a part of Sarangapani temple, but now it is separate. This too is called Karonam. The several Karonams in this city indicated clearly that Pasupatha cult was dominant here at one time. The temple faces east and has a small tower. This God removed the curse of Brihaspati to moon and hence got their name Somesvara. The Goddess is Somasundari. The Moon also erected a tank here after his curse was removed. That tank is called Chandra pushkarani. Next in importance is Vyazha Somesar who was installed by Vyazhan. Another Linga installed by the Chola king Parantakan called Cholisar. The Muruga here should be seen without fail. Not only for the Thiruppugazh songs of Arunagiri is he famous but also his sporting a fool-wear in his legs.
